The tour starts at 07:00 with the pick up by the hotels. The embarkation schedule, at the Punta Bandera Private Port (47 kilometers from the city of El Calafate), will be at 08:30 am and departure will be at 09:00 am, after the passengers are informed about Safety standards and navigation conditions.
Once on board we will sail through the North Arm of Lago Argentino until we reach the Upsala Channel, where we will find a spectacular Ice Barrier. From there we will have a panoramic view of the Upsala Glacier. The Upsala Glacier was the largest glacier in the Los Glaciares National Park, but after having suffered a significant decline in recent years (Surface 2008: 990km2. Current area: 765km2) was second only to the Viedma Glacier (900km2) To the north of the park. The Glacier owes its name to the Swedish city of Upsala, whose university sponsored the first studies on glaciology in the area.
Then we will sail the Spegazzini Channel, where we can observe the Dry Glacier, until arriving at the front of the Spegazzini Glacier, the highest of the National Park with an average height between 80 and 135 m. The Glacier owes its name to the botanist Carlos Spegazzini who made the first studies of flora in the region.
Once back in Puerto Punta Bandera, we will continue the journey towards the South zone of the National Park Los Glaciares to surprise us with the majestic Perito Moreno Glacier.
Arrival to “the curve of the sighs” called this way is the first point where we have a
panoramic view of the expert glacier Moreno.
Short stop to take pictures and prosecution to the footbridges of the Perito Moreno Glacier.
Once there and once replaced by the astonishment caused by the imposing landscape, we will cross the steps or walkways to obtain different views of the front of the Glacier, 5 km long. It is necessary to remember the importance in the respect that we must have for the signage that owns this part of the Park, and to cross at all times the catwalks without leaving the same ones.
The park rangers take care of the preservation of the beauties of the place and fulfill an important task as informants, which is complemented by the story and the permanent assistance of our guides, who accompany the travelers along the whole route.
Around 18:00 we meet at the beginning of the walkways to begin our return to El Calafate where we will be arriving approximately 19 o’clock.
Recommendations: wear comfortable shoes and warm clothing (sweater and windbreaker and / or waterproof jacket). Sunglasses, protective cream and gloves.
Also sun hat or coat in case it is very cold.
Duration: 12 hours.
