All about the VIEDMA DISCOVERY ICE TREKKING – FULL DAY.

Depart at 9:00am from Bahia Tunnel to the Glacier Viedma. The little Tunel bay port, only 15 km north away from El Chalten, is located in a hidden natural bay at a few hundred meters from the delta formed by the homonymous delta. Sail southward on the modern Huemul Boat (capacity of 55 passengers) 15 minutes in the bay. The depth of the lake allows a comfortable trip along the shore, with a view on the Fitz Roy Massif and Huemul Peak. As the boat arrives at the Cape Hornos, it turns west to a sudden and astonishing view of the Glacier Viedma.  At approximately 10:30am, visitors land at the rocky headland in front of the glacier after navigating through rough waters. Once disembarked in this natural harbor, the passengers are invited to a short walk on a moraine left by the glacier only a few years ago. This place with its incredible point of view is ideal for the briefing passengers will receive from the experienced guide. After the briefing, visitors take a further short walk to see the glacier front, where it lies on the promontory (ablation area) with the prints of erosion. The guide will escort the group through the ice caves nearby - a phenomenon rarely seen in any other big glacier. From this point, there is an optional two hour long trek on the Viedma Glacier with crampons. Afterwards, depart from the headland to navigate near the front of the glacier that stretches nearly 55 meters in height.  There, visitors can admire the many shades of blue of the ice due to the pressure that it supports as the valley between the two peaks of Huemul and Mascarelo.  Lunch will be provided on board, navigating near the calving area of the glacier.  Arrive at 15:30 to the Bahia Tunnel and end services.
