  1. DAY 1 IQUIQUE: TRANSFER IN - CITY TOUR

Welcome at the airport and transfer to the hotel. In the afternoon we will begin our tour in Iquique, visiting the most important historical aspects. You can still breathe the saltpetre cycle in its streets (between the second half of the 19th century and the first half of the 20th century). The architecture is a true reflection of the richness of a city that, at that time, was one of the most important ports in Chile. During this tour we will visit the Spanish Moorish-style Casino (Casino Español) and Plaza Prat, where the Clock Tower and the Municipal Theater are located. We will also visit the Regional Museum that houses Chinchorro mummies, the oldest known to man. Along Baquedano street you can see the beautiful residences built for the wealthy owners of the Saltpeter companies. To end this historical tour, we will visit the fishermen ‘s cove, where we will learn more about the Pacific War, which involved Peruvian and Chilean ships in 1879. Rest of the afternoon free to enjoy the beach or Hotel facilities.

After lunch we will visit Pintados Geoglyphs, with more than 1500 years old, has been preserved due to the almost zero rain in this part of the Atacama Desert. We will find more than 400 prominent figures in the hills due to the technique of contrasting colors of the earth by scraping or accumulating rocks. As an optional activity, after lunch, we can visit Cocha Resbaladero, a popular thermal bath framed in two natural tunnels made of volcanic rock. And for those who are good cyclists, we can do a 45-minute ”downdunes” ride in fat bikes (prior reservation).
