PENÍNSULA VALDES MYSTIC – 5 DAYS 4 NIGHTS

Welcome by your guide at Trelew airport in the morning. Transfer to Trelew for breakfast at the renowned Touring Club Hotel. Before leaving for Puerto Madryn, we visit the Museum for Paleontology Egidio Feruglio to see the permanent exhibition, as well as the backstage lab assisted by the museum research staff.  Transfer to Puerto Madryn and check-in at the Territorio Boutique Hotel around noon.  After the hotel check-in we drive to El Doradillo, an area just outside Puerto Madryn with new agribusiness farming: lavender, tea blends, olive farming, caper production and wild berries. At the end of this tour you will enjoy a tasty outdoor brunch. Before dinnertime we visit the Ecocentro Puerto Madryn, a centre offering culture activities and the interpretation of local marine ecosystems.  The Ecocentro is located on a coastal cliff offering a spectacular view over the Golfo Nuevo. Dinner is not included. We recommend dinner at the hotel restaurant.

We leave for Peninsula Valdes after breakfast. Peninsula Valdes was declared World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1999 and has recently been granted the World Travel Award 2019 as South America's best whale watching destination. A 60-mile drive on a good road (paved) takes us to Puerto Piramides, where you board a boat to encounter the fascinating Southern right whales.  This whale watching tour is unique in its kind and considered to be the best in the world by the National Geographic. Lunch consisting on fresh fish, seafood and chilled white wine will be served in Hidden House Restaurant.  The restaurant owners will cook just for you!  After lunch, we drive 34 miles on gravel roads to Estancia Rincon Chico in the south of the peninsula.  Along the way we have big chances of coming across local wildlife such as rheas, foxes, guanacos and birds. The activities on the farm will be coordinated with the farm owners. During the stay at Rincon Chico you will appreciate the beauty and varied wildlife on the farm and along its beaches and learn about the conservation work carried out on site.  Rincon Chico's 10-mile-long-coast is chosen by hundreds of Southern elephant seals to breed, shed their fur or simply rest. Elephant seals, the world's largest seals, can be observed here all-year-round. This place is also a paradise for birding, with over 120 different identified marine and land bird species. Dinner at the estancia.

Activities on the farm: flora and fauna interpretation, hiking, mountain-bike and birdwatching.

After breakfast we leave for Caleta Valdes, Punta Norte and Nature Reserve Estancia San Lorenzo. San Lorenzo hosts the world's largest Magellanic penguin colony. Lunch will be served in the 100-year-old sheep-shearing barn. The menu includes traditional lamb BBQ and red wine produced in Patagonia. Once in the penguin colony, you will walk along special trails: just you, your guide and the park ranger. These tracks are exclusive to researchers and very few visitors. Transfer back to Puerto Madryn at dusk. Accommodation at the Territorio Boutique Hotel. Dinner not included. We recommend En mis Fuegos Restaurant.
